CRANBERRY TWP — With the end of the school year fast approaching, a local organization is looking to equip children and their parents with the tools they need to maintain healthy habits throughout the summer months.

The Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA is hosting its annual Healthy Kids Day this weekend to teach children about the importance of exercise and nutrition.

The event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA on Ehrman Road is free to attend.

“We are very passionate about getting youth healthy,” said Ashley Vranick, youth and family director at the YMCA chapter in a news release. “I'm so thankful that the YMCA can be a platform for making this happen. We have so much support from our local businesses, and this is going to be a real community show of support for your next generation of youth and their health.”

This year's theme is “Passport to Health.” During the event, attendees will receive an event passport that leads them to five locations throughout the building.

Activities will include seed planting, tooth fairy bag decorating and bike safety activities.

Healthy Kids Day is a nationwide initiative to promote health and well-being in children while they're out of school for the summer.
