A Butler Township woman already on probation for a prior drunken driving case was nearly two-and-a-half times the state's legal limit for alcohol following a weekend arrest, authorities said.

State police said they stopped Cynthia K. Lewis, 54, around 11:35 p.m. Friday at Brugh Avenue and Route 8 in Butler for driving with a suspended license-DUI related.

Lewis admitted that she had been drinking alcohol, according to charging documents, and she subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

She was taken to the barracks for a breath test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.199 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Lewis on charges of DUI, driving during suspension, careless driving, reckless driving, failing to sign her vehicle registration card and not wearing a seat belt.

She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment. She is also being held on a probation detainer for the prior DUI.

Additionally, Haggerty ordered Lewis to wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor bracelet upon her release from prison. The tamper-resistant device is typically worn on the ankle and is designed to detect alcohol consumption through the skin.

Butler Township police arrested Lewis on Dec. 20, 2017, for drunken driving after they say she struck a mailbox on North Duffy Road. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.265 percent

She subsequently pleaded guilty to DUI, court records showed, and was sentenced Oct. 17, 2018, to five years in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first 105 days to be served on house arrest with electronic monitoring.
