An allegedly intoxicated woman was arrested after Butler police say she kicked an officer in the chest following an early Wednesday morning traffic stop.

Jocelyn L. Scott, 30, of Pittsburgh is facing felony assault and other charges. She is in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Police said Scott was a passenger in a car that was pulled over around 1:15 a.m. on Liberty Street for having a burned out headlight. She and the driver both got out of the vehicle.

The officer told them to get back into the car. The driver, a man, complied, police said, but the defendant did not. Instead, she walked up West Diamond Street.

The driver acknowledged to police that the woman was wanted on a warrant.

Patrolman Cheryl Litz heard the call on her radio and spotted the defendant. For officer safety reasons, police said, Litz eventually handcuffed Scott.

The woman smelled of alcohol, according to Litz's affidavit, and she refused to identify herself. She also allegedly hurled obscenities at and continued to pull away from the officer.

At some point, police said, Scott was placed in the back of a patrol car, where she slipped out of her handcuffs.

Litz got her out of the car and secured the cuffs, but when she tried to place the defendant back into the cruiser, Scott allegedly kicked her twice, causing the officer's right elbow to hit the car door frame.

Litz apparently was not injured.

District Judge Kevin O'Donnell arraigned the defendant on a felony charge of aggravated assault, misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and a summary charge of public drunkenness.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
