Joseph W. Tommaney

Joseph W. Tommaney, 88, of Mars, formerly of Middlesex Township, passed away on Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born on Dec. 9, 1930, in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary Margaret McCarroll Tommaney. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Tommaney.

Joe was a research metallurgist for Allegheny Ludlum, where he held 16 patents relating to the steel making process.

He was a member of St. Kilian Church, where he had been an usher. He was a former member of Holy Sepulcher Church and enjoyed bowling with the senior league in Mars.

He had served in the U.S. Army National Guard during peacetime.

Surviving are his wife, Reta Curren Tommaney, whom he married on May 8, 1955; three daughters, Sheila (Mickey) Pappas of Mars, Linda (Stephen) Bridger of Saegertown, and Kathleen Tommaney of Mars; two sons, Timothy Tommaney of Export and Kevin (Tiffany) Tommaney of Saegertown; his grandchildren, Jessica, Vanessa, Jordyn, Marshall, Lacey, Todd, Katie, Zara and Zaiden; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Anne Tommaney; two brothers, Michael (Sandy) Tommaney and James Tommaney, all of Albany, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Joan Tommaney of New Jersey.

TOMMANEY — Friends of Joseph W. Tommaney, who died Wednesday, March 13, 2019, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.A blessing service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev.
