Ellwood City man jailed on drug charges
A Lawrence County man is behind bars while awaiting preliminary hearings next week in three separate drug cases in Butler.
Cody L. Holland, 24, of Ellwood City is facing felony and misdemeanor possession charges. He remains in the Butler County Prison on $21,500 bail.
Holland has been in the prison since April 3 when Butler police nabbed him on a felony arrest warrant in connection with a previous incident.
An officer, after stopping the defendant walking on West New Castle Street, searched him and found him with suspected crack cocaine and a crack pipe, police said.
On Wednesday, District Judge William Fullerton arraigned Holland on his latest charges — misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Police had been looking for him on the arrest warrant for charges stemming from an Oct. 17 traffic stop in the area of South Chestnut Street near West Diamond Street.
According to charging documents, the defendant was a front seat passenger in the car that was stopped for having a burned out license plate light.
He was subsequently searched, police said, and found with a plastic bag stuffed in the sock on his right foot. The bag contained what appeared to be crack cocaine.
The weight of the suspected crack, 4.3 grams, and the manner in which it was packaged, documents said, led police to believe that it was more than just for personal use.
Police said they also found him with a crack pipe and Chore Boy copper scrubber, which is commonly used to filter drug-smoking pipes.
He was arraigned April 3 on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
On Oct. 12, police said, officers found Holland with a crack pipe and Chore Boy after he was arrested on a bench warrant on Wyle Avenue.
In that incident, he was arraigned April 3 on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Holland's preliminary hearings in the three cases are scheduled for Monday.
