A traffic stop Sunday in Butler led to the arrest of a drug felon, who state police say was hiding crack cocaine in his underwear.

Anthony Lee Cook, 33, of Natrona Heights is charged with felony drug possession and remains in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

A patrol trooper was in Butler about 3:20 p.m. when he spotted a man go into an apartment in the area of West Cunningham and Mercer streets, known as a “high drug use area,” police said.

Only seconds later, a pickup truck pulled up next to the apartment. A man got out of the truck's passenger side and went into the same apartment.

The second man returned to the truck and the vehicle drove away. The trooper followed the truck and learned that it had an illegal license plate on it.

Police pulled over the vehicle, which also was uninsured. A check found that Cook and the driver both had criminal records. Cook, according to charging documents, had two prior felony drug arrests.

A pat-down search led the trooper to believe the defendant had drugs stashed in his groin area, police said. He was taken to the Butler police station for a thorough search.

He allegedly admitted that he had narcotics in his underwear. Police seized a cellophane bag containing 18.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine from his skivvies.

His pants pockets also were stuffed with $700 in currency.

District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Cook on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
