JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board recognized the accomplishments of the district's wrestling team at the state championships.

Sophomore Alejandro Herrera-Rondon earned the title of state champion in the 113-pound weight class, and Dylan Chappell, also a sophomore, earned state runner-up in the 106-pound weight class.

“I won't find two young men that are as humble as these or as talented as they are,” said Seneca Valley Athletic Director Heather Lewis. “They truly are great representatives for this district.”

Lewis noted that the students were among a very few who, during warm-ups at the state championships, stopped stretching and preparing so they could dance along to the to the popular '80s Village People song “YMCA” when it came on over the speakers.

The two students were coached by Kevin Wildrick.

Alejandro said that his favorite part of wrestling is “right after weigh-ins,” when he can eat, and that he dreams of one day qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team. Dylan echoed that wrestling is the sport he loves and is excited for next season already.

In other district business, the board approved student trips to Germany in November for an educational trip and to British Columbia in February for a ski club excursion.

The board also approved the service contract extension between Waste Management and the district for waste disposal and recycling and approved the security services renewal agreement and amendment with Gentile and Associates for a two-year term beginning in 2019.
