Police looking for parolee who removed his monitoring bracelet
Authorities are seeking a Butler man who escaped home detention by removing his electronic monitoring bracelet this week.
Butler County detectives on Friday obtained a felony arrest warrant for 58-year-old Richard J. Dortman.
The suspect turned up missing shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday when MHY Family Services officials notified the county’s probation office that his device had generated a tamper alarm.
MHY of Adams Township provides services for adult and juvenile offenders participating in the county’s community monitoring program.
Probation officers used GPS equipment to track down the bracelet, which was found in a parking lot near Virginia Avenue in Butler.
Dortman had been wearing the device since March 22 when he was released from the Butler County Prison as part of a 30-day parole sentence, according to county detectives.
The probation officers went to Dortman’s home on Third Avenue. He lives in a three-quarter house, which also is called a sober-living house.
The house manager told the officers that the defendant had been asked to leave the home, authorities said, after he had been seen there “visibly intoxicated.”
District Judge William Fullerton issued the warrant for Dortman, who is charged with a felony count of escape.
