Fire damages Cranberry restaurant

Crews work to repair damage Sunday left by a fire Saturday at the House of Chen restaurant on Brandt Drive in Cranberry Township.

Crews work to repair damage Sunday left by a fire Saturday at the House of Chen restaurant on Brandt Drive in Cranberry Township. According to information from the Cranberry Volunteer Fire Company, the fire in the restaurant's kitchen was reported at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. Flames and smoke were visible from the outside of the building, but none were found in the kitchen. The restaurant was evacuated, and crews determined the fire was in the exterior wall beneath the siding. It was removed and the fire was extinguished, with the remaining area was soaked with water to ensure no additional fire. The department indicated the fire appears to have been caused by an electrical line that caught the wood framing on fire. Cranberry Township police also assisted with the incident. The restaurant was closed Sunday, and no indication was given as to when it would reopen.
