I-79 work closes lanes overnight
CRANBERRY TWP — Temporary lane closures will be in place next month on Interstate 79 in the township.
Nighttime single-lane closures on Interstate 79 at mile marker 80 north of Route 228 will be in place in both directions beginning at 8 p.m. April 10 and ending May 20.
The modification will enable crews to prepare to install temporary crossovers and utility work for the replacement of existing structures carrying I-79 over North Boundary Road with dual, two-lane, single-span composite steel multibeam bridges.
Plans include a temporary bridge to keep two lanes of traffic moving northbound and southbound during construction. Work also includes approach work, drainage, guide rail and lighting.
This is a scheduled two-year project. The design is to construct the I-79 southbound structure this season, shut down over winter, then commence on the northbound structure in the next construction season.
