Peters pleads guilty to less serious charges in drive-by shooting case
The defense of a Butler woman accused of attempted homicide came to a halt Tuesday when the woman entered a plea deal with the most serious charges dropped.
Mackenzie P. Peters, 23, appeared in court shackled and wearing an orange jumpsuit. During a hearing that was originally scheduled to allow prosecutors to provide more evidence against Peters, she pleaded guilty to four counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of hindering apprehension for her involvement in a drive-by shooting on April 5, 2018.
In pleading to the charges, Peters admitted to providing transportation in a car to someone who she knew had an illegal firearm on them and helping to conceal the gun from authorities. As Judge Timothy McCune reviewed the case, her lawyer, Joseph M. Kecskemethy, placed his hand on Peters’ shoulder before McCune accepted her plea deal. She faces a minimum of 18 months of incarceration, according to Kecskemethy.
