An inmate is accused of bringing heroin into the Butler County Prison.

Trina M. Holderman, 29, of Oakland Township is facing a pair of felony drug charges in the weekend incident.

Butler County sheriff's deputies took Holderman to the prison around 1:40 p.m. Friday after they arrested her on a bench warrant, county detectives said.

That warrant, court records showed, was issued Thursday after she failed to appear for a hearing in Butler County in connection with a 2018 case of misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession.

A deputy and prison officer asked Holderman “multiple times” if she had any contraband on her, according to charging documents. She eventually allegedly turned over a crack cocaine pipe and an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin.

But during a strip search, a female officer caught the defendant with a plastic bag containing what appeared to be heroin hidden on her body, documents said.

In the bag, detectives said, were two glassine bags of suspected heroin. The alleged drugs are to be sent to the state police crime lab in Westmoreland County for analysis.

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned Holderman on felony charges of bringing a controlled substance into the prison and possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She is being held in the prison on $10,000 bail in the case.
