Debra L. Wiles Montgomery

Debra L. Wiles Montgomery, 65, of Acworth, Ga., formerly of Oil City, passed away the evening of Feb. 5 peacefully at Heritage Hospice Care in Marietta, Ga., after a courageous 10- year battle with cancer.

Born June 14, 1953, in Butler, Debra was the daughter of the late Robert “Tweeter” Wiles and Helen (McElroy) Wiles.

She spent nearly 40 years in health care, starting as an LPN in Oil City. After moving to Cincinnati in the mid-1990s, she continued to work as an LPN for her dear friend, Dr. Suzanne Matunis, while going to school at nights for five years before earning her RN degree from Cincinnati State University.

She spent the past several years working as an RN case manager at Sedgwick before retiring this past June.

Deb had a great zest for life and helping others, particularly cancer support groups during her own fight.

She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. She enjoyed spending time with her three sons and four grandchildren.

She is survived by her stepmother of 60 years, Mary M. “Sis” Callihan Wiles.

Also surviving are her sister, Marcia Lupi and her husband, Michael, of Butler; her sons, Todd and his wife, Jennifer, and Marcus and his wife, Ashlee; her son, Stephen; four incredible grandchildren, Jackson and Declan (Todd), and Mason and Reese (Marcus); as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Deb was preceded in death by her husband, James, with whom an incredible love story began in Oil City 45 years ago. His passing came recently on Jan. 30, 2019. They are and will be reunited forever.

She was also preceded in death by her loving in-laws, Harold and Kathyrn Montgomery of Oil City; and her brother-in-law, Harold “Nern” Montgomery; as well as cousins, aunts and uncles.

MONTGOMERY — A memorial Mass for Debra L. Wiles Montgomery, who died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor officiating.Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Chicora.Local arrangements are under the direction of Hile Funeral Home of Chicora.The family has set up a GoFundMe page in Jim and Deb's name to support the Oil City Little League, in which Jim had a profound effect coaching many young men and women and in which Deb was very involved as well.
