2 flown out after 422 crash
CLEARFIELD TWP — A portion of Route 422 in Clearfield Township was closed in both directions for about an hour Wednesday evening following a three-vehicle collision.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m. between the former White's Auto Sales and Lick-N-Putt Ice Cream & Golf in Fenelton.
Few details were available Wednesday night because the crash remained under investigation by state police.
Chief Derek Thompson of the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department said two medical helicopters were called to the scene to transport the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles to UPMC in Pittsburgh.
He said one of those injured in that vehicle was trapped and had to be cut from it by firefighters.
A third injured person from another vehicle refused medical treatment, he said.
An East Butler fire truck blocked traffic on both sides of Route 422 as firefighters directed oncoming traffic to make a U-turn.
Traffic cones marked spots along the road for the helicopters to land, while a long line of traffic waited on the shoulder of the highway.
All three vehicles were towed and Route 422 re-opened about 6 p.m.
