Veterans banners to be displayed in Harrisville

Harrisville Mayor Gary Hughes spoke with Evans City Mayor Dean Zinkahnn about how the latter accomplished bringing veterans banners to his community. Below is an example of one of Evan City's banner.

HARRISVILLE — Veterans banners may soon grace borough poles.

Resident Etta Miller spoke on behalf of the Harrisville American Legion Auxiliary 852 at Monday's borough council meeting.

She said the group wants to install veterans banners with the borough's permission.

Borough council voted unanimously at Monday's meeting to approve placing information about the banners in the newsletter and putting the banners up.

Once the form is available, residents will fill the form out and return it by mail with the photograph that will be scanned. The form provides information to go along with the photograph.

“We have a form they will fill out with the name, service, person's rank, any conflict they were involved in, and that's all included on the flag,” she said. “Ours will be open to living and deceased, for anybody (who) wants to put a banner up.”
