Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring. Butler County residents are still waiting.

The county entered into another winter weather advisory around 11 a.m. Sunday with initial expectations of 2 to 6 inches of snow accumulation, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

Sunday's snow made for some slick road conditions. Ten accidents alone were called in between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., according to the Butler County Communications Center.

Meteorologist Lee Hendricks said the snowfall should be finished by 2 or 3 a.m., but the lingering cold could continue for a few days.

“If you put your long johns away, you may want to pull them back out,” Hendricks said.

He said the county will see strong wind gusts Tuesday, too.

“That'll give us wind chills at times down in the single digits,” he said.

Hendricks said the area should begin to warm up Wednesday and temperatures should climb higher into Friday, but the fact that temperatures are this cold is unusual.

“Normally around this time of the year high temperatures are around 40,” he said.

Hendricks said he would like to say that this would be the last of winter's sting, but there are still plenty of storm cells being monitored. He said some could be strong.

“I'm not going to say this is the end of winter,” Hendricks said.

One positive is that snow will have a harder time sticking.

“During these times of the year, the sun is higher in the sky midday, keeping the sticking from occurring,” he said. “The grip won't be nearly as strong as it was in January and February.”

The service's official forecast shows some slight chances for snow showers Tuesday and Friday. And while there is hope the county could see warmer temperatures this weekend, there also is a chance of rain and, unfortunately, snow.
