ADAMS TWP — Ian Floyd, resident and Saving Rural Adams member, has announced his candidacy for supervisor and his support for a push to curb development and help the township maintain its rural properties and appeal.

Floyd grew up in Zelienople and moved to Adams Township several years ago “for the acreage” and to enjoy the rural landscapes.

He soon realized things were changing.

“It really started with the neighborhood they're building on Dobson Road,” he said. “When I first heard it was coming in, I started getting active.”

Floyd connected with Saving Rural Adams, a group of township residents that seeks to preserve the township's rural character from what they consider to be overdevelopment and urbanization.

The group has become an increasingly vocal presence at township meetings over the past few years, with members speaking out against housing developments and planned residential development, or PRDs, particularly in the Rural Conservation district.

Floyd said if elected he'd like to see PRDs prohibited from that district and increased scrutiny on dense housing developments.

“Seeing the way the roads are treated by these heavy trucks ... there are 53-foot trailers coming with those heavy load trailers — easily over 20 tons on roads that aren't built for that,” he said. “And there's nobody there to pay for it except for us.”

Floyd said he'd also like to see more businesses open in the township to generate jobs and provide goods and services to residents.

“I'd like to see more business come in, especially mom-and-pop places, restaurants,” he said. “We just lost Mars (Super Market), so now people have to go to Cranberry and Seven Fields to go grocery shopping.”

Finally, Floyd said he'd like to see more transparency between the township and residents, increased communication and the quicker release of meeting minutes.

“In the modern day, I don't see why they can't be put up in like a week,” he said.

At his day job, Floyd works in information technology in Warrendale while acting on the side as an extra in TV shows and movies shot in the area.

Sharp-eyed residents and pop culture aficionados can spot him in Netflix's “Mindhunter” and “Mulligan,” an upcoming show based in Pittsburgh.
