Joan McBride Stackman
Joan McBride Stackman, 93, of Audubon, Pa., formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away Friday.
Joanie was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Bluffton, Ind.
She earned her education degree from Ball State University.
Her favorite teaching position was teaching kindergarten at Har-Mer in the Slippery Rock School District.
Joan married R. Robert Stackman on Aug. 17, 1947, in Bluffton, Ind., where they resided. There they had their children, Susan (Richard) Black of Grove City, Linda (Gene) Wentzel of Boyertown, Pa., and Dr. William Stackman of South Bend, Ind.
Dr. Stackman, history, was employed by Slippery Rock University and Joan taught in the Slippery Rock School District. He preceded her in death in March of 2013. They had a wonderful marriage of 62 years.
Joan was involved in many activities. They included golf, bowling, clogging and swimming. Joan, an only child, learned bridge and played competitively at a very early age. She continued to play bridge until her death.
Joan and her husband retired to Arizona. Ten years ago, they moved to Shannondell Retirement Community to be near their daughter, Linda, and her family.
Joan's life purpose was to see the good in everyone she met. Dr. Seuss may have said it best, “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”
