Whipping winds continued to take their toll on Butler County overnight and early this morning. Businesses and homes throughout the region sustained damage due to winds like the Main Street businesses pictured here.

More than 9,500 Butler County residents are still without power as of 7:30 a.m. due to the high winds,

Most of the outages are due to downed trees and power lines. A number of roads in the county are also closed, including Route 68 at Linwood Drive in Summit Township, which closed around 6:30 a.m.

West Penn Power's website showed 5,142 customers without service. Central Electric Cooperative's website listed 4,423 customers with no power.

Police and emergency crews are being inundated with calls this morning.

Around 7:15 a.m., a pine tree was reported on fire after falling across power lines on the 700 block of Whitestown Road in Connoquenessing Township.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., trees and wires were reportedly down on Spruce Road in Fairview Township and a power line was down on in the back parking lot at the Sarver Post Office on Ekastown Road.

Penn Township police issued an alert to the volunteer fire department to restart the generator for the traffic lights at Route 8 and Airport Road

The high wind warning for Butler County expired at 7 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

The forecast for the rest of the day is sunny, with a high near 28. Winds of 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph are expected,

Tonight is to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. West winds 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
