Charles I. Stewart

Charles I. Stewart, 83, of Erie, formerly of West Freedom, Clarion County, a retired Pennsylvania State Police trooper, passed away early Thursday morning at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning.

Charles was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Perry Township, Clarion County. He was the son of the late Kenneth B. and Ruth Hodil Stewart.

Charles was a 1954 graduate of Parker High School.

He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Charles was a Pennsylvania State Police trooper for more than 30 years. Early in his career, he was stationed at barracks in Meadville and Girard and retired from the Erie barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police. He was a member of the FOP and the North East American Legion.

He is survived by a sister, Arlene W. Pennington of Bruin; a sister-in-law, Sandy Stewart of St. Petersburg; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Stewart; and a brother-in-law, Lewis Pennington.

STEWART — Friends of Charles I. Stewart, who died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City.A funeral service will follow at 3:15 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev.
