William P. Decker

William P. Decker

William P. Decker, 92 of Slippery Rock, passed away Thursday at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

He was born June 28, 1926, in Irwin to William Ellsworth Decker and Rebecca Ann Holderbaum Decker.

He married Emma J. Snyder Oct. 5, 1956, and she preceded him in death on March 11, 1973.

He married Mary E. McCall on Nov. 13, 1976. She survives at the residence.

Bill was a U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and the Korean conflict.

Bill was a long time member and elder at Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.

He held various jobs in both management and labor working among many trades, including road construction, electrical contracting, and plant management.

He retired from Slippery Rock University in 1988 where he worked in the Facilities and Planning Department.

He loved to golf, bowl, mow his yard, wash and wax his car, play cards and dote on his wife.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, at home; his daughters, Laurie (Michael) Dette of Farmington, N.M., and Jennifer (Andrew) Pernesky of Sharpsburg; his son, William D. (Dan) Decker of Grove City; his sisters, Ethel (Paul “Toby”) Tobias of Grove City and Connie Blakley of Grove City; his brother, Donald Decker of Volant; his grandchildren, Kevin Hines, Michelle (Gordon) Poteet, Kailee Decker, Dekker, Emily and Rebekah Pernesky; and great-grandsons, Erick and Russell Poteet.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sisters, Jean Prince, Alverta Say and Myrtle Bailey; and his brother, Roland Decker.

DECKER — Family of William P. Decker, who died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. William Mumaw III presiding. A reception will be held immediately following in the social hall of the church.Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial donations may be given to Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center Street, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
