Rose Vicari Macefe Sommariva
Rose Vicari Macefe Sommariva, 107, of Butler, formerly of Sherman Avenue, passed away Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.
Born in Shawmut on Dec. 7, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Dominic and Concettina Gregory Vicari.
She was a hairdresser who owned and operated Rose Macefe's Beauty Shop for 31 years. She also previously worked at Spaide Shirt Factory.
She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She belonged to the 55 & Alive of St. Michael and the Ladies Guild of St. Michael.
She is survived by one son, Steven A. Macefe of Butler; seven grandchildren, Mark Thomas, JoAlison (Timothy) Wiles, Lara (Rich) Kuminkoski, Ryan Macefe, Joclyn (Daniel) Slomers, Corey Macefe and Jillian Macefe; 11 great-grandchildren, Jessica (TJ) Peters, Taylor Wiles, Colin Wiles, Kyle, Chloe and Isabella Kuminkoski, Jacob, Zachary and Mya Slomers, Zoey Snyder and Ian Macefe; and two great-great-grandchildren, Scarlett Wiles and Russell Kenaan.
Rose is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who were very special to her.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen A. Macefe, who died June 13, 1967; her second husband, Louis J. Sommariva, who died July 28, 1981; one daughter, Joan (Russell) Thomas, who died May 13, 1999; four brothers, Philip, Sam, Joe and Tony Vicari; and two sisters, Josephine Macefe and Mary Regis.
MACEFE SOMMARIVA — Friends of Rose Vicari Macefe Sommariva, who died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler.Burial will take place in Saint Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to conduct a scriptural wake service.Rose's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Concordia Lutheran Ministries for the loving care they provided to Rose over the past seven years.For more information, please visit www.martinfh.net.
