Joyce Wigton, 86, of Butler passed away at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1932, in New Castle, and was the daughter of the late Hugh Smith and Jesselyn Smith.

Mrs. Wigton was a member of the North Main Street Church of God.

She was a graduate of Butler High School Class of 1951. She was an active member of the reunion committee for more than 50 years.

She was past president of the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler.

Joyce loved music and was a very good dancer. She loved dogs, especially German shepherds.

Joyce enjoyed having family picnics. The family bought a cottage on the Allegheny River in Warren County in 1980 and spent a lot of time there.

Joyce was inducted in the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame in 2011 for having voted consecutively at every November election for the last 50 years.

Joyce was the store cashier at Sears for 30 years.

Joyce is survived by her husband, James Wigton; two sons, Richard of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Timothy of Butler; two grandchildren, Timothy Jr. and Nicole; and a great grandchild, Kaylee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bette McAnany; and two brothers, Stan Hugh Smith and Bill Archibald Smith.

WIGTON — Friends of Joyce Wigton, who died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev.
