Helen E. (Burtner) Frenchak

Helen E. (Burtner) Frenchak

Helen E. (Burtner) Frenchak, 88, of Butler passed away Saturday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Jefferson Township, to the late Merrill and Florence (Parker) Burtner.

Helen was a homemaker.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of America.

Helen was a member of the women's service group, a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years and an avid bowler. She like playing cards, crafting and weeding her garden.

Helen was well known for opening her own backyard for numerous years so her children could put on a carnival to help support muscular dystrophy research. This is one of the many ways Helen lived her life and taught others about the importance of caring and public service. She was constantly doing little acts of kindness. She never failed to always think of others before herself.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Gary) Cousins of Butler and Sherry (Ronald) Steber of North Carolina; three sons, Barry W. (Teri) Frenchak of Texas, Bryan W. (Marina) Frenchak of Texas and Brent W. (Kris) Frenchak of Texas; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Ohl of Cabot and Nancy (Earl) Mowery of Saxonburg; two brothers, George (Celine) Burtner of Virginia and James (Charlotte) Burtner of Saxonburg; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace William Frenchak, whom she married on Nov. 5, 1949, and who passed away on March 14, 2002; two sisters, Margaret Benninger and Mary Belle McLaughin; as well as one brother, Roy Burtner.
