MIDDLESEX TWP — After a decades-long moratorium on the sale of liquor in township businesses, one longtime resident is working to see this change in the face of rapid growth in Middlesex and across the region.

Mary Lou Tabisz has spent the last several months working with businesses and residents in the township to bring Middlesex's status as a dry township to referendum, allowing the voters to decide whether to change it.

Tabisz, a 38-year township resident, said the time is right to make the change, as developers seek to bring new businesses to the township and residents search for ways to fund infrastructure improvements and service expansions.

“Route 8 is going to develop at some point,” she said. “I just want to help guide it, to have a say in what comes.”
