James L. Vodenichar

James L. Vodenichar, 90, of Meadville passed away on Dec. 16.

Jim was born April 22, 1928, in Sharon, and was the son of the late Frank and Rosena Hug Vodenichar.

He was a graduate of Sharon High School. During his senior year, he attended classes then worked second shift at Sharon Steel in support of the war effort. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Marine Air Corps aboard the USS Siboney and USS Midway.

He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Carnegie Tech in electrical engineering.

Jim was a professionally licensed electrical engineer for over 50 years. He began his career at Talon, where he was part of the team that developed zippers for space suits. He later worked at Channellock Inc., Fuellgraf Electric and Burt, Hill, Kosar, Rittelmann. He ended his professional career with WBC and Associates, a company he helped create.

He was married to Rita Berchtold Vodenichar until 1976. She preceded him in death in January of 2003.

He then married Jayne Vodenichar, and she preceded him in death in March of 2010.

Jim loved to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing and playing handball. He played football in his high school and college years. In high school, he was named athlete of the year, a title of which he was proud.

Jim was Catholic by faith.

Jim is survived by his children, Leigh King and her husband, David, of Sandy Lake, Lynn Maloney and her husband, Donald, of Meadville, Jeffry Vodenichar and his fiancée, Marlaina, of Butler, and Dr. Jenny Fisher and her husband, Charles, of Howard, Pa.; his grandchildren, Lauren, Beth, Kurt, Keith, Austin, Jacob and Sara; numerous great-grandchildren; his companion, Laura Depaulos; three stepdaughters, Tracy Wilson, Linda Heichel and Jennifer McMillian; his sister, Rosemary Simmons and her husband, Bob, of West Sunbury; his sisters-in-law, Betty Vodenichar of Sharpsville, Amy Burns Vodenichar of Butler and Paulette Vodenichar of Boyers.

In addition to his parents and wives, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Kurt James Vodenichar; his brother, William Vodenichar; and his granddaughter, Dana King.
