Harrisville council updates sewage rates

HARRISVILLE — After Slippery Rock University's Harrisville building was charged $1,800 for its monthly sewer bill, borough council took action to correct outdated billing rates for businesses.

April Anschutz, borough council president, said the system for calculating sewage rates for businesses were particularly outdated.

She said the new rates were determined based on average use of the sewage.

Anschutz said SRU's Harrisville building was receiving large monthly sewage bills around $1,800, which prompted a review of the rates for businesses.

“The university was paying an astronomical rate,” she said. “So, we asked EDES (Group, the borough's engineering firm) to see if they were being billed correctly.”
