SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The township enters the new year with plans for Kiester Road's future.

Township supervisors adopted the 2019 budget in November without a tax increase. The budget listed an estimated revenue at $855,500 and expenses at $938,020. The township also has $1.5 million in cash and investments.

Paul Dickey, supervisor chairman, said plans for a repaving project along Kiester Road factored into the deficit.

“We have plans to pave Kiester Road from the borough line out to Harmony Road,” Dickey said. “We expect to spend some money on that. It's a pretty expensive thing.”

Dickey said the township continues to be financially stable.

“We're going to have to draw a bit from savings. We have the money there to do that,” he said. “We've got the Kiester Road project proposed, and we were going to add a little bit of Act 13 money to that to make the state funds balanced.”

Dickey said the township also is looking into a second boom road mower for general maintenance purposes. He said the supervisors have budgeted for that expense as well.

“We're looking at a second mower that would maybe go a little quicker on the first pass,” he said.

But the priority for the supervisors in the coming year will be Kiester Road as planning continues.

“We thought paving was appropriate there,” Dickey said. “It's a little more than we normally do, but we felt it was warranted.”

The supervisors talked with engineers about the project, and they received an estimate of $69,500 for resurfacing Kiester Road.

“We have sufficient funds to cover everything, even though we're spending a little more than we're bringing in,” Dickey said.
