The Butler Public Library welcomed 2019 as the year of the cat as children celebrated the Happy Mew Year.

Kids and their family members gathered Wednesday in the library's meeting room to enjoy the cat-themed New Year's program.

Tiffany Harkleroad, youth services librarian, read three stories and a poem that focused on cats. .

Children finished off the day coloring and building paper cats as their parents helped with the scissors, of course.

Dianna Edwards of Renfrew and her children are usually at the library three days a week because they fell in love with the children's library on their first visit.

“We just moved here and when I walked into this children's library, I cried,” she said. “If I can make it to every function they have, I would be here. Their programs are awesome.”
