Dorothy Olive Rider Aiken

Dorothy Olive Rider Aiken, 98, of Prospect, passed away peacefully Saturday at noon in the Redstone Highlands Nursing Home, Greensburg.

She will be remembered as the most loving, beautiful, patient, and kind mother, grandmother, and great grandmother anyone could have ever asked for.

Born Sept. 30, 1920 in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Elmer T. and Vera I. Porter Rider.

She was a member of Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed making the traditional apple butter.

In her early years, she was an operator for Bell Telephone.

She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, music, drawing, family camping trips, crocheting Caps for Kids for the Butler Hospital, and making lap throws for the patients at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was a wonderful cook and always hosted family gatherings.

She was always positive and selfless; she had a heart of gold and never wanted to be a bother to others.

She is survived by her loving children, Doris (David) Osborne of Prospect, Arleen (Gil) Sekely of Irwin, David (Janice) Aiken of Warrenton, Va.; seven grandchildren, Richard (Jenn) Osborne, Eric (Jen) Osborne, Chris Sekely, Jen (Ron) Mikluscak, Jeff (Margi) Sekely, Clinton Aiken, and Connor Aiken; eight great-grandchildren: Ciera, Loren, Matthew, Tyler, Caleb, Sarah, Hunter, and Ian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leroy A. “Bud” Aiken, whom she married June 3, 1948 and who passed away July 2, 2005; and an infant daughter, Mary Ann.

AIKEN — Friends of Dorothy Olive Rider Aiken, who died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect.The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Raisley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Cort of Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church officiating.Interment will be at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt.
