On Wednesday, Nov. 14, Shirley Ann Neal, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away peacefully at the age of 78.

Shirley was born April 1, 1940, in Pittsburgh, to John and Wilhelmina (Janke) Nese.

She attended Peabody High School, Maison Felix Beauty School and Butler County Community College.

Shirley was a small-business owner and touched many lives, as well as developed lifelong friendships through her beauty salon, Shirley's Place, located in Gibsonia and Carnegie, Pa.

Shirley, known to friends and family as “Gram,” was a curious spirit, collector of gems and an animal lover with dogs Max, Wee (Dunk) and Kookie.

She was known for her cheery sense of humor, quick wit and compassionate soul.

Shirley is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Neal; two daughters, Loretta Thompson and Cassandra Franklin; her sister, Jean Dicicco; her brother, Robert Janke; her grandchildren, Elliot Wolf and Danielle Harris; and her great-grandchildren, Fitzroy and Sigrid Harris.
