George E. Pennington

George E. Pennington, 86, of Parker passed away peacefully at his residence Wednesday.

Born Jan. 27, 1932, in Parker, he was the son of the late Walter L. and Martha Zoe Master Pennington.

A graduate of the former Bruin High School, George later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War as an Airman 1st Class.

George worked and retired from the former Pullman Standard in Butler as a cutter/piece maker.

He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 7073 in Parker, and a life member and former steward in the American Legion in Parker. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a former deputy sheriff for several years in Parker.

He enjoyed reading Western novels and completing jigsaw puzzles. Besides being a crack shot with the 22 Hornet, he was a talented poetry writer and guitar, violin and spoon player. He also enjoyed looking out the window and watching the cars go by.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lisa (Zane) Thompson of Parker and Laura Pennington of Parker; one son, Walter R. (Marcie) Pennington of Parker; one stepson, Rick Barger of Franklin; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Pennington of Parker; two sisters, Twila Best of Eldorado and Myrna Dunlap of Sligo; two brothers, Dale (Vivian) Pennington of West Sunbury and Alan (Deborah) Pennington of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nira Belle Barger; and his second wife, Bonnie Rae Wike; a son, Robert Pennington; an infant stillborn; one sister, Deanna Fross; an infant twin brother; and an infant sister.

PENNINGTON — Friends of George E. Pennington, who died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne Ave., Parker.Members of the American Legion and VFW of Parker will hold military honors at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dutch Hill, Parker.To view or to send condolences or flowers, please visit buzardfuneralhomes.com.
