Butler Twp. man charged with DUI after traffic stop

Andre Lucky

A Butler Township man did not live up to his name after state police stopped him Monday for a pair of traffic violations in Butler.

Andre A. Lucky, 32, was charged with drunken driving and resisting arrest, and is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Troopers on patrol around 12:20 a.m. came upon Lucky, who was in the driver's seat of a sport utility vehicle stopped in the middle of Hansen Avenue, police said.

The officers noticed the right passenger side brake light wasn't working. They also noticed the hazard lights were not on, even though the vehicle was blocking the southbound lane.

When they got to the vehicle, officers allegedly smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from it. Lucky, police said, appeared impaired and a portable breath test device indicated he had alcohol in his system.

But he allegedly refused to take field sobriety tests or a blood test. Police arrested him for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The troopers said when they asked Lucky to walk to the back of the police car, he refused.

One of the officers had to use force to walk him back. In turn, documents said, the defendant “used his hips and body to shove (the officer) against the police car.”

Lucky was eventually placed in the back seat of the cruiser. He was later arraigned on charges of DUI, resisting arrest, driving without hazard lights on and a brake light violation.
