A Massachusetts man no longer faces a litany of charges for accusations of leading state police on a drunken, high-speed chase in July that ended in a crash on Interstate 79.

Robert L. Milgram, for whom no age was given, of Natick was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for an undisclosed reason following the wreck shortly after 7 p.m. July 3. Police said he was not injured. The wreck left Milgram with a bill for $856 for a damaged guide rail. He has since paid the bill, according to his defense attorney, Dennis McCurdy.

Milgram is currently out of state receiving medical care.

With the guide rail repairs paid for, the prosecution decided Wednesday during a preliminary hearing in Slippery Rock before District Judge William O’Donnell to withdraw the case against him.

“We’re not going to drag him out of treatment,” Assistant District Attorney Russell Karl said.

The withdrawn charges against Milgram included a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police, a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, and 53 traffic violations.
