A 16-year-old accused of stabbing a man at Cooper's Lake Campground in August is heading to juvenile court after a brief hearing Friday.

Judge William Shaffer said he saw no reason not to transfer the teen to juvenile court. The boy's attorney, Joseph Smith, pointed out that he has no prior record.

It also was mentioned that the teenager may have been acting in self-defense. Attorneys involved haven't been able to contact the victim, a 47-year-old man.

The accused boy, who was 15 at the time, was arrested by state police. Police reported then that he apologized for what he had done.

The boy is from southern Maryland. His family was in the courtroom Friday.

He is free on a $15,000 bail.

The charges against him are both aggravated and simple assault. Such charges dictated that he be charged as an adult, but can be decertified to juvenile court.
