CHERRY TWP — Moniteau High School was placed on brief teaching lockdown Thursday morning after a student was injured during vocational agriculture class, district officials said.

The student, a boy, was taken by Superior Ambulance to Grove City Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

“We are doing an investigation related to the situation,” Moniteau Superintendent Sean Arney said Thursday afternoon. “The student is recovering and doing well.”

The incident happened about 10 a.m. “He was moving a piece of equipment,” Arney said, “and the piece of equipment fell on him.”

The superintendent could not definitively identify the equipment, but he said it was being used for the class. Emergency crews said they found the boy seated in a chair when they got to the school. He was described as being “conscious, alert, oriented and talking.”

Arney noted that teaching lockdown is common practice when there is a need “to help minimize student traffic in the hallways.” The goal, he said, is to clear the way for first responders to reach any victims as quickly as possible.
