To honor the recent death of former President George H.W. Bush, the U.S. Postal Service announced that it would pause regular mail delivery on Wednesday.

The Postal Service noted that, in the midst of the holiday season, some packages and service will continue in a limited way.

“We will provide limited package delivery service on that day to ensure that our network remains fluid and we do not experience any impacts to our package delivery operations that might negatively affect our customers or business partners during the remainder of our busy holiday season,” the Postal Service said in a statement.

Bush died on Friday at the age of 94, less than a year after his wife of 73 years, Barbara, died at their Houston home. While he only served one term as president, he left a legacy of public service as a congressman, an ambassador to the United Nations and envoy to China, chairman of the Republican National Committee, director of the CIA, two-term vice president and, finally, president.

President Donald J. Trump marked Dec. 5 as a national day of mourning and the postal service's announcement is in pursuit of that call.
