Governor Tom Wolf announced today that his administration would allocate more than $5.2 million in funding for communities across the state — including Butler County — to help homeless families and promote homelessness prevention

Butler County will receive a total of $64,194 from the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program. ESG funding falls into four categories: rapid rehousing, homelessness prevention, street outreach and emergency shelter.

Rapid rehousing helps families who are homeless, fleeing violence or living in a home that is not suitable for habitation, while homelessness prevention assists families who might be in jeopardy of losing their housing.

Street outreach connects unsheltered homeless families with emergency shelter and health services, while emergency shelter funding supports costs associated with operating or renovating a shelter.

“Combating homelessness and preventing someone from becoming homeless in the first place is a priority of my administration,” Wolf said. “Our goal is simple: to eliminate homelessness in the commonwealth. These grants are another step in achieving that goal.”
