John Zellonis

John Zellonis, 76, of Butler passed away on Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Brook-ville, Pa., and was a son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Vandervort) Zellonis.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army for 26 years, one month and one day. He worked with the Butler School District JROTC program, retiring in 2004.

John enjoyed hunting and working in the garage.

John is survived by his two sons, Donald W. Zellonis of Butler, Matthew J. Zellonis of Ann Arbor, Mich.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Matt Zellonis and Donald Zellonis; four sisters, Mary Ellia Toven, Madalyn Rittenhouse, Elizabeth Klebacha and Julie Ann Upunger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Oksunchi Zellonis, whom he married on Sept. 9, 1966, and who passed away Aug. 5, 2016; one daughter, Marina S. Zellonis; one sister, Nellie Mae Richards; and one brother, Joe Zellonis.
