Horace Edsel Kober

Horace Edsel Kober, 89, of Slippery Rock Township, Butler County passed away on Tuesday at Autumn Grove Nursing Home in Harrisville.

He was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Coaltown, Pa., to Emanuel Kober Sr. and Mary Whitehead Patton Kober.

Horace graduated from what was then called West Sunbury High School and is now called Moniteau High School.

He married Clementine Colosimo on June 9, 1956, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2008.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict.

Horace worked for over 40 years at Slippery Rock University as a heavy equipment operator in the maintenance department.

He was a member of St. Peter Parish and the Slippery Rock American Legion.

Dad enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, working out at Wise Fitness Center and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates play baseball.

When he was younger, he enjoyed bowling and won many trophies.

Dad enjoyed going on trips to Florida too. Anyone who knew Dad knew that he would love to sit and tell his stories and about the love of his life and how he met her. He would tell his stories to anyone who would listen.

Survivors include his sons, Donald Edsel Kober of Flagler Beach, Fla., Richard Eugene Kober (fiancée, Lea Lester) of Grove City; his sister, Anna Bishop of Grove City; and his brother, Emanuel Kober of West Sunbury.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his stillborn son.

KOBER — The family of Horace Edsel Kober, who died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Church of St. Peter Parish, 232 Boyers Road, Forestville, with the Rev. Steven Neff presiding.Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Harrisville.
