Surveillance video results lead to charges against Butler man

Dwayne Smallwood

A Butler man is accused of bringing a bag of crack and powder cocaine into the Butler County Prison.

Butler police said they found the defendant, 40-year-old Dwayne Smallwood, shortly after midnight Monday while investigating a suspicious activity report on Zeigler Avenue.

Officers learned that he was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Mercer County, police said. He was arrested for the warrant and taken to the county prison.

A correctional officer later notified police that a cloth bag of suspected drugs was found behind a bench in the prison's processing area.

Surveillance video subsequently showed Smallwood dropping the bag, according to court documents, while he was seated on the bench waiting to be processed.
