Scoop soaring toward 100 wins

This is all about me.

For being an eagle, I know plenty about pigskin.

I’ve been showing it every week.

Yes, I am puffing my beak more than usual this week because your feathered friend is a mere seven wins away from 100 for this high school football season.

And I’ve only dropped the ball 11 times, mind you.

But, OK, enough of my crowing. Let’s go after that century mark. If I hit on all of these, I’m there.

Seneca Valley 16, Central Catholic 12 — If you like defense, check out this game. There should be plenty of it.

The Raiders lost by six points in the regular season meeting between these teams. Starting quarterback Gabe Lawson didn’t play in that game, but Caden Smithco did a good job in his place.

Seneca Valley gets its revenge in a grinder.

Mars 28, Woodland Hills 14 — I get it, Woodland Hills is Woodland Hills and Woodland Hills has athletes.

This year’s edition of the Wolverines also has six losses. And the Planets have Garrett Reinke, a clutch passing game and a staunch defense.

Enough said.

Aliquippa 34, Freeport 13 — The Yellowjackets have never beaten the Quips. Aliquippa is averaging 50 points per game and has allowed the opposition more than a touchdown only twice all season.

This is a tiough draw for the Yellowjackets, who deserve better, but it’s only an 8-team tournament in Class 3A.Freeport will score a couple of times, but not enough times.

North Catholic 38, Quaker Valley 11 — The Trojans rolled up 64 points last week, even with the mercy clock running.

The mercy clock won’t come into play here, but a lopsided North Catholic victory will.

Moniteau 26, Clarion 23 — The Warriors are rolling. The Bobcats are reeling.

Memorial Stadium at Clarion University will be rocking.

Clarion has dropped four straight and Moniteau is playing its best football of the year. Look for the Warriors to pull out a victory.

Smethport 37, Union/ACV 15 — Great year for the Falcon Knights, who are headed in the right direction. But Smethport is undefeated and will stay that way.

Union/A-C Valley will have its improved defense tested this week. If it passes that test — and it may — look for a much closer game.

Slippery Rock 31, Harbor Creek 10 — All due respect to the Huskies, but their schedule hasn’t been as tough as the Rockets.

And Slippery Rock seems to thrive in these first-round playoff games. The Rockets will make the most tof their Saturday night in Erie.

Scoop is all about triple digits in 2018.
