1 slight blemish for Scoop last week
Just one blemish.
That’s all I had last week.
Just one, solitary mark on what otherwise was a clean week.
I’ll take 10-1.
And I’ll certainly take 84-11 on the season.
This week wraps up the regular season with nine games on the slate for the Ol’ Scoopster.
Let’s see if I can go 9-0 and get over the 90-win mark.
On to the picks:
Canon-McMillan 32, Butler 10 — The Golden Tornado made some strides last week, playing pretty well for 48 minutes in a loss.
Butler tossed two touchdown passes.
This week, though, the Tornado face a Canon-McMillan team that has a lot riding on this game. For that reason, it will win.
Seneca Valley 30, Norwin 8 — The Raiders held Pine-Richland to 21 points last week, but the offense stalled.
Seneca Valley will go into the playoffs on a positive note.
Knoch 22, Freeport 15 — This is the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron since 2005.
That was Mike King for Knoch vs. Bill Dillen for Freeport.
A lot has changed since that game was played at the old Swartz Field in the season opener that year, including the coaches.
What hasn’t changed is the rivalry between the two schools.
Freeport, though, may be holding back a little for the playoffs and Knoch is shooting for a .500 record and a chance to end the season on a high note.
That’s why I’m going with the Knights.
Mars 37, Hampton 7 — The Planets’ defense imposes its will again.
North Catholic 45, Deer Lakes 10 — The Trojans want to prove to the WPIAL that they deserve the No. 3 seed.
Moniteau 33, Keystone 11 — No one seems to be able to stop the Warriors’ running game lately.
Keystone won’t, either.
Karns City 39, Titusville 20 — The Gremlins badly want to close out the season with a rousing win.
This year has been the stuff of nightmares for Karns City, which has lost five games in which it had led or was tied with its opponent in the fourth quarter.
Karns City won’t let Titusville rally in this one.
Ridgway 33, Union/A-C Valley 12 — Ridgway is coming off its first loss of the season.
That’s not good news for the Falcon Knights, who are coming off their own disappointing loss.
Both teams are in the playoffs.
Mohawk 44, Summit Academy 8 — The Knights didn’t have much going for them this season in a tough section.
And then they have this tough non-section game to close out the season.
Scoop is on the road to 100 wins and hopes he doesn’t get detoured along the way.
