H. Jean “Grandma Jean” Michael
H. Jean “Grandma Jean” Michael, 94, of Chicora passed away Monday at Chicora Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 27, 1923, at home in Crisswell, Armstrong County. She was the daughter of the late Roland and Mildred Bishop Hiles.
She was a 1942 graduate of Fairview Township Karns City High School and, in her earlier years, had been employed at Penn Drake in Karns City.
She was a homemaker.
Concern and caring for family was her highest priority.
Jean was a lifelong member of the Fairview Evangelical Presbyterian Church and, at the time of her death, she was the church's oldest member. She was also a member of the Triple M Bible Class and the church choir. She was a member of the Treble Clef Music Club for many years.
Jean was married to Arthur L. Michael by the late Rev. R.C. Sherrard at the Fairview Presbyterian Church on Aug. 16, 1947. Mr. Michael preceded her in death on July 13, 2011.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Michael and his wife, Kathy, of Chippewa Township; a daughter, Carla Stiehler and her husband, Robert, of Karns City; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Michael and his wife, Kathy, of Darlington, Bradley Michael and his wife, Holly, of Beaver, Shawn Michael and his wife, Jennifer, of Moon Township, Eric Michael of Seven Fields, Nathan Flick of Chicora, Caralie Hertweck and her companion, Justin Hiles, of Chicora, Ashley Gamble and her husband, Rob, of Butler and Amber Michael of Butler; and 15 great-grandchildren, Trent, Brooke, Erika, Elizabeth, Luke and Nola Michael, Malia, Mylie and Gage Hertweck and Gavin Hiles, Sylas and Adalyn Flick and Hayden and Declan Gamble and Aubrey Kaplin.
Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.
Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Michael, who died on Aug. 14, 2010; a sister, Ruth Sigworth; and two brothers, Roland and Clayton Hiles.
MICHAEL — Friends of H.
