August Joseph Casper

August Joseph Casper, 90, of West Sunbury passed away Saturday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

August was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late August Paul Casper and the late Mary T. Bauer Casper.

August proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the 32nd Infantry of the United States Army. He was awarded four Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantry Badge for his outstanding service.

August was a member of the St. Alphonsus Parish having attended St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury.

He had been employed at Castle Rubber and retired from the Hot Mill at Armco after 24 years of service. August was a member of VFW Post 249 and enjoyed farming.

August is survived by his wife, Mary T. Keller Casper, whom he married Aug. 2, 1952; daughter, Barbara Loughner of Panama City, Fla.; son, Gary J. (Susan) Casper of West Sunbury; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; a brother, David (Gerry) Casper, of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

August was preceded in death by two brothers.

CASPER — The family of August Joseph Casper, who died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, will receive friends at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 11, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St Louis Catholic Church with Father James Bedillion of St. Alphonsus Parish officiating.Burial will be in West Sunbury Union Cemetery.Online condolences are available at www.williamfyoungfh.com.
