Police seeking help finding suspected burglar
Butler police are seeking an Armstrong County man suspected of breaking into a woman's apartment and stealing several hundred dollars and personal items .
Maurice A. “Little Philly” Franklin, 25, of Freeport is charged in a felony arrest warrant with burglary.
Police said video surveillance captured Franklin committing the alleged crime at the apartment building on the 300 block of West Jefferson Street shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday
The footage showed the defendant walking — empty handed — into the building and toward the victim's apartment, according to court documents.
A short time later, police said, he is seen walking — holding a safe — down the stairs and out the basement door.
Authorities believe Franklin forced open the locked door of the woman's apartment. He knew the tenant and apparently knew she would not be there when he allegedly broke into the home.
The victim told police that after she returned home she discovered her safe missing, according to investigators. The safe, she said, contained $700 in currency, which was her rent money.
Also in the safe was her state identification and her children's birth certificates.
