Edward C. Bortmess
Edward C. Bortmess, 94, of Zelienople passed away on Wednesday while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community.
Born Oct. 27, 1923, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Edward F. Bortmess and Alvirda Plaxton Bortmess.
Ed proudly served our country as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 72 years, Irene Kress Bortmess, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1945; his daughters, Donna Lamneck and her husband, Harry, and Nancy Dunn; his grandchildren, Ryan McCarthy and his wife, Pam; his two great-grandchildren, Ryan Jeffrey and Riley Rose; his brother, Roy Bortmess and his wife, Sally; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jeffrey Wilson Dunn; his brother, Donald Bortmess; and his sister, Audrey Kosie.
BORTMESS — Friends of Edward C. Bortmess, who died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, will be received from noon until the time of the funeral ceremony at 3 p.m. Saturday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at the Zelienople Community Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
