The Rev. Grant R. Walborn

The Rev. Grant R. Walborn, 93, of Concordia, formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

He was born July 10, 1925, in Butler, and was the son of the late Lewis D. Walborn and Ida Wimer Walborn.

Rev. Walborn was a Christian and Missionary Alliance pastor.

Before serving as a pastor, Grant joined the Merchant Marine in 1942, serving faithfully on numerous ships and tours of duty during World War II.

Following the war, he worked for a short time in the steel industry in both Pennsylvania and California, before receiving his call to the ministry.

He attended Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y., and graduated second in his class with high honors in 1957. He was inducted into the Nyack Honor Society on the day of his graduation.

For the next 40 years, Rev. Walborn served churches in Cumberland, Md., Uniontown, Punxsutawney, Meadville, Chicora and New Castle.

Rev. Walborn was a member of the Butler County Amateur Radio Club and he enjoyed playing golf and pitching horseshoes.

Grant Walborn lived a selfless life of service to the Lord Jesus Christ, his family and countless others touched by his ministry. He is deeply loved and will be fondly remembered.

He is survived by his brothers, Henry Walborn of Butler, Robert Walborn of California, William Walborn of Colorado and Paul Walborn of Oregon.

He is also survived by three sons, Gary Walborn and his wife, Kay, of Falls Creek, Pa., Donald Walborn and his wife, Joanna, of Mount Dora, Fla., and Ronald Walborn and his wife, Wanda, of Nyack, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Walborn was preceded in death by his wife, Madaline, whom he married Dec. 15, 1945; his sister, Wava Hilliard; and his brother, David Walborn.

WALBORN — Family and friends of the Rev. Grant R. Walborn, who died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Additional visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faith Way, Fared Drive, Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Dennis L. Krajacic of Community Alliance Church and the Rev. Richard Jenks of Faith Fellowship Alliance Church officiating.Burial will take place in Worthington Lutheran Cemetery.The family suggests memorial donations be made to Nyack College, One South Boulevard, Nyack, NY 10960, where a scholarship is being set up in his name.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
