Georgetta M. (Urban) Griggs

Georgetta M. (Urban) Griggs, 86, of Butler passed from this world on Saturday.

Georgetta, known as “Georgie,” was born in April 1932, in Johnstown, to George and Helen Urban.

She lived in Altoona and Gibsonia before moving to Butler in 2017.

Georgie graduated from Johnstown High School and met the love of her life, Ivan, to whom she was married for 65 years.

While in Altoona, she was the president of the Welcome Wagon club and was a trophy winning bowler.

Georgie was a devout Catholic, who taught catechism for 40 years, excelled at theorem painting, loved her vacations to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Maine, and enjoyed baking, much to the appreciation of her family and neighbors.

Georgie is survived by her daughters, Mary (John Eckenrode) Griggs of Burke, Va., Christine (Bob) Perneski of St. Marys, Pa., and Jennifer (Bob) Miles of Fombell.

She is also survived by her cousins, Barbara (Terry Nagle) and Mary Frances (Larry Carlin) of Philadelphia.

GRIGGS — A Mass of Christian burial for Georgetta M. (Urban) Griggs, who died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 2510 Middle Road, Glenshaw. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.She will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery in Glenshaw.Arrangements were entrusted to King Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Allison Park.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Georgie's family at www.kingfuneralhome.com.
