Power leaves over 3000 without power

Outages along Route 68 and in Connoquenessing Township

A power outage Tuesday afternoon affected many along Route 68 between Connoquenessing and Butler townships.

About 3100 customers were out of service between the townships, according to Chris Eck, Penn Power spokesman.

Eck said the company had already redirected power back to about 2,000 customers by about 3:30 p.m.

“So we’ve got about 1,000 still out,” Eck said at the time. “We’re hoping to have those folks back between 30 minutes to an hour.”

Eck said a substation transformer failed around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Connoquenessing Township. He said the company began working on repairs immediately.

Eck said the repairs are not major and should not have any lasting affects on the customers.

“In this case, the damage was confined to a substation, so it’s not like they’re sending repair crews all over,” Eck said. “It should be a pretty quick fix.”
